Sketches from Japan.
The consideration the Japanese take in their design, especially in architecture really inspired me. The approach to design is something I have not seen in the west. I find great interest in the different elements of design in different countries and a key feature in Japan is the exposed telephone wires which is a practical feature, which is easy to replace in times of earthquakes, but is also a key signifier of Japanese streets. The overlap functional and aesthetics really interests me, and I look forward to study this moving forwards in Architecture.

Spatial and Observational Sketches:
Studying Interior Architecture at University of the Arts London, UAL, I was able to understand architecture beyond my life experience. Going on site visits and working with the partners was rewarding, as I really valued designing with the clients in mind. The combination of designing to achieve an educational goal whilst designing experiential spaces for children of a local housing estate, elevated my interest using infrastructure to preserve community.

I was fortunate to spend a day shadowing an architect that I met in Japan earlier this year where I learnt that Architecture is inseparable from its context, which is why their buildings are designed with the human experience in mind. Before my trips abroad I had always seen the built environment as fixed, old buildings were beautiful and modern buildings were disappointingly dull and monotonous, and thats the way it is. Buildings are built without telling the story of its intention, but my trips abroad, specifically to China and Japan opened up a crack in what I had accepted was the mundane reality.
