This (above) was a concept for the final piece, a more abstract and more overwhelming style. I loved the idea of the repeated, almost cascading fingers and distorted joints suffocating her. She’s put her hands up to her face to comfort herself, but her own hands are squashing herself inwards and in result she’s being suppressed by her own self.
This (above) was another concept, and more similar to the final piece, I wanted the three faced to show the change, and instead of my previous concept, have more of a celebration and observation of change rather than be squashed by the change. I knew when I started this piece I wanted to blend the three phases together, merging and transforming, to show that they are all the same person and help each other change.
For this piece I wanted to show my change over the course over the pandemic, primarily the three years of 2020, 2021 and 2022. This would be easy to show the physical change, as I made physical changes to myself over these three years, but I also wanted to show mental and emotional change.
Reference Photos:
The second reference image is from 2021, where this type of hairstyle was very popular, and I found it very fitting for the piece, as it is not only representative of me, but many others during this year.
This last picture is of the time I made the painting, and it is the most reflective of my present self at that time.

The mirrors on the third allows anyone to looks at the piece to see myself in the art work, showing how the people around me shape me and are integral to my development as a human being. They can see their influence in my art.
It also allows for any version of me past the creation of this painting look into the mirrors and see myself. The piece will always show fundamental parts of my development and the present version of myself.
A-level Portfolio
The first image is from 2020, at the very start of the pandemic, experimenting with makeup. In the painting, I wanted to show the childish, unknowing nature I had.
I chose to create this final piece with oil paint, as it was completed over a few days, and oil gives me the flexibility to have different styles, ranging from abstract to realism.

Final:
This piece is A1 size.
I knew that I only wanted three faces but I still wanted to include this hair change and maybe use of the mask so, between the first and second face there’s a strip of black and red hair.
